Ohio Dems Purged Voters Re-Registration Phonebank! · Ohio Democratic Party

Join fellow Democrats on Zoom to help re-register voters and ensure their voices are heard this November! We're organizing a virtual phone bank to reach out to purged voters in Ohio. Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose, recently purged another batch of voters from the rolls, making it crucial that we act now to ensure their voices are heard this November. By participating, you'll directly assist in re-registering these voters, using a predictive dialer to efficiently make calls and engage with fellow Democrats. Never made calls before? No problem! We will kick off the Zoom with a brief training on how to use our dialer and go over our best call tips! Already trained? Hop on to the Zoom to get the dialer link and start dialing! Join us in this critical effort to restore voting rights and ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate in our democracy. Let's make a difference together!

If Biden does decide not to run again, one of the worst effects will be the New York Times' conclusion that it can decide the outcome of our political campaigns.

The paper's campaign to remove Biden -- using its "news" and commentary pages -- has been unrelenting.

That it is (IMO) based, in part, on the Times' anger at being refused an interview -- "How dare he refuse? We are the NY Times goddamit!!!" -- only heightens the arrogance quotient.

At its moment of peril, democracy needs journalists to be activists

Journalists, this is your chance, maybe your final one, to stand proudly for reality and democracy, for freedom of expression, for human rights. Stand up as journalism’s best — think Ida B. Wells and Edward R…

Illinois: HUGE! Healthcare Protection Act passes; step therapy & prior authorization banned, premium alignment, network audits & more!

I've been following this bill for awhile now but never got around to writing about it until after it passed through both chambers of the Illinois legislature. That's a shame, because it's a pretty Big F*cking Deal for Illinois residents. Via WAND Illinois: The Illinois House passed the Healthcare Protection Act Saturday to help curb predatory insurance practices and protect consumers. Gov. JB Pritzker's monumental plan could make Illinois the first state to ban prior authorization for in-patient adult and children's mental healthcare. The legislation also bans step therapy, or the fail first method, where insurers force people to receive less effective treatment before moving to options initially recommended by doctors. ...The measure requires prior approval from the Department of Insurance before large group insurance plans can increase rates and states premiums must align with the actual cost of providing care as well. "Premiums must align with the actual cost of providing care," otherwise known as...Premium Alignment, which over a half-dozen states have implemented via either legislation or administrative orders including both blue states like New Mexico and red states like Texas.

Wiping out Hamas is an unattainable goal, and getting stuck in Gaza would be a disaster.

So some people decided I'm white just because I'm Jewish and don't believe that my African and Middle Eastern parents have been violently expelled refugees from the Muslim countries of Iraq and Morocco. They (or their parents on my mom's side) have come to Israel as refugees and are now refugees again from the south of Israel. I am in fact North African and Middle Eastern, even if doesn't suit your narrative. As you can see, we are all very white, and should definitely "go back to Europe".
The GOP has introduced a bill to EXPEL Palestinians from the United States. I cannot read such things without remembering what happened to my own family after Pearl Harbor. After we and 120,000 other Japanese Americans were incarcerated in prison camps for years, without charge or trial, my own mother was very nearly expelled to Japan because of racial prejudice and hatred. Only the brave actions of a civil rights attorney saved her from being sent away. #NeverAgain

Tens of thousands of garment workers in #Bangladesh who make products for brands like Zara, H&M and GAP are on strike.

Their minimum wage is $75 a month, and they're demanding it rise to $208. The bosses are only offering $90.

They've shut down over 300 factories so far.

Thousands of Bangladesh’s garment factory workers take to the streets demanding better wages

Thousands of garment factory workers have taken to the streets of Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, and the industrial district of Gazipur to demand better wages. Protests erupted over the weekend after BGMEA offered to increase the monthly minimum wage by 25% to reach $90, instead of the $208 demanded by the workers. While Bangladesh has been maintaining stable annual economic growth for years, rising inflation has become a major challenge. Bangladesh has about 3,500 garment factories employing about 4 million workers. It earns $55 billion a year from exports, mainly to the United States and Europe.
