It looks like this route display inside of a bus has a memory leak or at the very least, the operating system, which seems to be a rather old version of Windows, is complaining that the pagefile is too small. So both RAM and virtual memory seem to be exhausted.

Virtual memory/swap is a memory expansion technique where some memory pages get stored on disk instead, at the disadvantage of being slower to access as they need to be swapped to the actual RAM chip on demand.

I spotted something fun today: When this cash register in a supermarket is idle, the iconic classic bubbles screensaver appears.

I remember it as a popular choice back on Windows 7 - colorful bouncy bubbles emerging one by one from a corner until the screen was full. According to a quick search, this nostalgic piece of software is apparently broken in Windows 10 and 11: It has an opaque background instead of the usual transparency due to changes to the OS, but workarounds exist.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this bus departure board is broken, but it's definitely unintended behaviour.

The sorting is incorrect. However, there is a simple explanation: The photo was taken at 23:13. The departures in 48min are just past midnight (00:01). The others buses depart at 23:16 and 23:25. Because 00:01 is smaller than 23:16, they are listed first, ignoring the date.

I just found this old gem of a commit by a fellow student whose name I shall not disclose. This work of art is titled "Security Update".

In case you're curious like me, yes, the API key is still valid.

AI was probably trained on this excellent quality repository of a old student project, too!

Todays broken screen is this rebooting passenger information system on a bus. The OS is Windows XP Professional. That might sound like outdated and insecure technology, but I'd argue it's perfectly fine to still use it on a bus in isolation (a forum post makes me think it uses I2C bus). After XP is done booting, a few console windows pop up. Then, a splash screen appears: PIDvisio2 from the company Init, who are still making these displays, albeit newer models.
