I also have a thing for craft beer, and did so before it was quite as trendy as today.

I live in Meanjin/Brisbane QLD Australia - in Bardon 4065 - on the land of the Turrbul and Jagera people. I'm British and moved here ten years ago.

Fans of a British accent and talking about AM transmission in too much detail might like to tune into ABC Radio Brisbane at 7.40am this morning (in half an hour), or ABC Radio Perth and WA at 6.15am this morning (in an hour).

You can listen to both online using the app, as about 20% of Australians use radio; channel 25 on your TV, DAB+ Digital Radio (as more than 20% of Aussies in cap cities do), or - for the moment - AM radio if you can find one

The future isn’t AM radio in cities. My latest radio newsletter - also includes “you won’t believe what ARN have done this time”

I chat with the listeners of ABC Radio Canberra, and look at US law trying to save it

@james and I return on 2nd January with our look back to 2025 both the highlights and the lowlights. We also review our 2025 predictions. How did we do?

And finally our predictions show for 2026 is out on 9th January. Lots of left field predictions in this one.

Until then, we wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year!

Remembering when an owl (actually not an owl) came to sit on the tree just outside the kitchen and STARE AT US

Beware of podcasters' exodus to YouTube

"There is a warning here for podcasting, drawn from what happened to news. Platforms took control of distribution first, then audiences, then advertising, and returned only a thin slice of what they captured. Video has delivered reach, but control still sits elsewhere"

They should stop filming podcasts, the whole point is it's supposed to be an audio media, too many are unlistenable now because they have to describe what's going on for the audio listeners.
Just going through my camera items, so I can avoid paying Tim Apple more than I need to. Found this lovely bit of "people with the right name".

AI-generated podcasts have entered the open system in a big way, it will be an interesting story to follow in 2026.

RSS tags will not help here. Podcast hosting companies may not always cook up the slop, but they are paid by the bowl to distribute it. Best thing that ever happened to them.

Podcast apps are where the slop is actually on the menu, and where they have a compelling interest in seeing the customer return to the restaurant.

“Choc”.

The recipe for Smarties has changed to have less cocoa in it, and as a result apparently they can’t call it “chocolate” any more.

I blame Peter Dutton.

Wow. What a mess. In #Brisbane, the KIIS breakfast show, which had an emotional last episode a few weeks ago, is, um, coming back again.

Craig "Lowie" Low will be doing a night-time show. Ooof.

Breaking: Robin, Kip and Corey are back

ARN has reportedy changed its mind, and the KIIS 97.3FM stars will return to the Brisbane airwaves in 2026.
