It feels a little silly to say so, but every moment that I practice banjo and get better at it I feel more confident about the future, because at least I know there will be music. I understand the purpose behind gathering other types of supplies and skills, but I'm much happier when I think about how, at the very least, I can contribute to making sure there's music no matter what. I feel that way about bread as well, but I don't know how I'd manage if I couldn't get flour. I've already got the banjo though, so I'm set on that front.
#Seattle folks: If you use #OpenStreetMap for checking bike or transit info and see any issues (like a bike lane missing, for example), just let me know and I can add it! I try to add everything I know about but there are plenty of places I don't get around to 🚲 🚌
Mastodon is the best social network for breaking news from trusted sources. I wish the Mastodon Core project would prioritize features such as global search that would make it easier to discover boots-on-the-ground reporters and OSINT (and no, hashtags don't work so spare me the proselytizing)
Today’s walk: dropped off my ballot first thing this morning, then walked north to 520, which was closed to cars but open to pedestrians—so quiet! Then north on the Kirkland Connector to the new Totem Lake pedestrian bridge, up the Eastrail to the Lake Sammamish Trail, and then west to Bothell. 69,575 steps, 34.4 miles. Shout out to Chateau St Michelle for giving me water when I ran out, and to the two genius kids selling lemonade on the trail just west of Woodinville. (They even took Venmo!)
Yesterday’s walk: I decided to do my annual walk around Lake Washington yesterday, but I added some more miles to it by walking from Factoria up to Newcastle and then down to Renton. Left the house at 4:28 am, returned at 11 pm sharp. I’m pretty sure that unless I had a gun to my head, this is the absolute most I can walk in a day. 112,004 steps, 53.9 miles.

Dominion apparently agreed to settle its libel suit against Fox. Hope there’s more to it than just the money.

Your #ebike use-case of the day:

My wife’s stepdad, 88 y/o, is a lifelong cyclist. Racing, touring, etc. Last year, he was riding along, and his heart just stopped. 10 minutes of roadside CPR kept him alive til a cop with an AED arrived.

As part of rehab, he’s ridden on a trainer, but that sucks. With my e-brompton, enabled by the motor which ensures his heart rate doesn’t go above his prescribed max, plus the low stepover, he’s back on the streets.

“Life-changing,” reports my mother-in-law.

"About 76% of Americans surveyed said they believed mass shootings are something 'we can prevent and stop if we really tried,' and not something that must be accepted 'as part of a free society.'"

And yet here we are.
