Hi, I'd appreciate a RT...

I'm looking for 6 other #EU citizens living outside of Ireland who would be interested in helping with an EU citizens' initiative.

The aim of the initiative is to improve EU legislation covering #TUPE (transfer of undertakings). Currently TUPE covers protection of employees' core compensation when a business is acquired. However there is a loophole in the legislation that allows both the selling entity and the purchasing entity to renege on unvested stocks, RSUs and retention bonuses. This initiative would be to close that loophole and ensure companies cannot renege on, or raid what employees have earned.

PM if interested stating what country you are resident in. I'll then message you on LinkedIn.

New Year's Progress

- I am no longer in the "3 boxes of just-in-case cables in the attic" club!

- All passwords (200 in all!) are now unique, strong and havenotbeenpwned

- Mortgage fixed for 5 years and at a lower rate than yesterday's

- Attic clearout: family souvenirs sorted and properly stored and baby cribs/cots cleaned and suitably donated

- Home office cleaned out and ready to tackle another year

@howelloneill @jerry yeah, there are some that defederated from the big general purpose servers, and that's their right. It just is what it is. The big severs will always be more general purpose and light touch, small servers can create bubbles. Different people want different experiences and that's OK!

If I seem flippant about this, by the way, it's not necessarily intentional.

But earlier this year I stepped down after many years of being the most active mod of a large-ish (~500k subscribers) subreddit, and so there is both:

* Weariness at people deploying the same sorts of oversimplified caricatures of mod and anti-mod sides that I've seen too often
* Slight amusement at how slow people are to realize that in a setup like Mastodon's, they can be far more responsible for their choices and actions than they ever were on the Bird Place and should probably act with that in mind.

Expanding on that last point a bit: here there is no nebulous central unaccountable "admins" or "trust and safety team". Here there is the team who admin and mod your instance, and there is you -- if you aren't part of that team -- able to directly see who they are and interact with and lobby them. This is a greater level of involvement and power for the average user than ever was on the other place, and comes with a corresponding greater level of responsibility to use wisely, because here the other users have much more realistic options to vote with their feet, or even to lobby against you.
