Make no mistake, if an outage similar to Crowdstrike would have been caused by OpenSource, there would be calls across the entire industry and at the government level to ban OpenSource from critical systems. But since it was caused by billion-dollar publicly-traded companies, nothing to see here, move-on.

In an incredible move, Switzerland has enacted a law obligating public sector bodies to provide the source code of any software developed for or by them under an open source license.

@craignewmark But the reality is that LITTLE seems to have changed in the realm of combating spam on the Craigslist platform, likely since it began in the 90s. This seems like a sad state of affairs. I know revenue comes from paid listings, and I know there is residual traction from history. But can you do SOMETHING to reduce the spam. MAYBE HIRE ME to lead such an effort! I could have saved Tribe, but didn't want the headache. I can deal with the CL headache now.

@craignewmark I would expect an organization as large as yours would leverage all the available tools at it's disposal to make your user experience as pleasurable as possible, but it seems you've allowed less inferior products, such as Facebook Marketplace, to take your throne.

10-15 yrs ago I ran a script to flag various postings as spam, and I found satisfaction in seeing the posters complain in the chat channels.

@craignewmark Regardless of the existence of those internal tools, it would seem (from experience) that most users are able to notice spam posts (regardless of whether they choose to "flag" them or not.) The one thing that puzzles me, from an operation standpoint, is that I've yet to see any evidence that your "spam fighting" tools actually have an impact. Whatever level they exist on seems to be pretty rudimentary

@craignewmark So, I'm not sure why it hit home to reply to you directly right now, other than the fact that I used search tempest to search for something tonight, and I once again found a BUNCH of spam postings on craigslist. (Which were identical posts on pretty much EVERY location SearchTempest pulled up.)

Craigslist has existed since, I think, the 90's, and it doesn't seem like there's any internal tool that eliminates spam posts.
