Indie developer, mountain biker, model railway owner. I spend my days working on Cascable. He/him.

It’s very likely I’ll ignore DMs/private mentions unless we have an existing relationship. Talk to me in public!

Also probably relevant: The project is around 50/50 Swift and Objective-C. As you'd expect, the Swift is by far the largest portion of the build time, but big parts of *that* are bound to a single core for whatever reason.
And for the "But indexing!!!" crowd, I let the M5 Air sit with power connected for a few hours until all the background processes finished doing their thing. It isn't a meaningful factor here.

My M5 MacBook Air arrived today, and I collected together all the computers I have access to and ran some benchmarks with an Xcode project of ours that's long enough to bring out thermal constraints. Ran two clean builds back-to-back, and these are the results from the second build (which were universally faster than the first).

It's weird that the Mac mini couldn't beat the M4 Air, but it *is* on Sequoia and everything else is Tahoe. Everything is running Xcode 26.2.

Great! My new windscreen wiper blades are available for pickup!

Wipers *for* my car will fit *in* my car, right?

(Yes yes, it needs a wash. That's about 30 minutes driving's worth of dirt at this time of year.)

Yikes, just saw that 1Password hiked their App Store subscription prices too. Our family plan is increasing by over 55%.

I’ve been grumbling about their app for years. Time to abandon ship.

Which competitor has the least worst Mac app?

(Requirements: Shared family vault, ability to store software licenses, SSH keys, random small files)

…another thing that’s become crystal clear (or, well… not) from listening to that interview is how soft my diction is. Gotta work on that!

I did a chat/interview with @malin and @kaidombrowski for the @DeepDishSwift podcast this year (I'm a speaker!) and what came out was a really lovely snapshot into my life as an indie developer over the past *mumbles* years.

Do give it a listen if you're interested in me or my work. It's a *little* bit technical, but not overly so, and not for that long. You'll certainly know more about me by the end!

I really love Deep Dish Swift, and I'm really excited to be speaking at it this year!

Turns out 9cm of extra build volume per axis is a *lot*.

Starting to get to the end of what’ll be two solid weeks of work on a complex, full of edge-cases chunk of work - very boring, very tedious, but too important to hand off to an AI.

Thankfully I’m getting to the fun part of this kind of thing - coming up with a big pile of unit tests to prove that it actually works as it should. The process of building that big list of green ticks - and shaking out some bugs in the process - is very gratifying after two weeks of being at 100% mental load!
