Thrilled that my book, The Cybernetic Border, is out now. “An in-depth and long-overdue interrogation of the complicated history and brutal impacts of America’s evolving technological war against migrants.” Save 30% w/link below. #AmericanStudies #HistoryofTechnology

Just got back from #ASA2022 and ready to start the final stretch of the semester by prepping a presentation on #artificialintelligence #digitallabor and #racialcapitalism based on a book chapter manuscript about #Sama.

Twitter was free because we were the product of a marketing service.

Mastodon is free software but someone will have to pay the bill for the servers. When the server admins come asking for help, don't be offended and be ready to chip in

Also Campbell’s technopessimistic sensibility around power and archives struck a chord for me. Talking about the scholarly anxiety around the ephemerality of digital content: “We are aware of gaps in the archive because we are used to being erased.”
I’m attending #ASA2022 in New Orleans this weekend. The first panel I attended was a wonderful one on Black digital studies with Brienne Adams, Kyle Lyndsey, and Cassidy Campbell, and moderated by Lisa Nakamura. Loved their engagement with the affective dimensions of user/platform relations.
Happy Halloween, folks in Masto! Here's a treat from Victoria Sánchez and me. Our draft book chapter on #artificialintelligence, #microwork, and racial #politicsofcare. It'll be part of #FeministCyberlaw book edited by Meg Leta Jones & Amanda Levendowski.https://www.ivanchaar.net/_files/ugd/a082b3_752fc34339e24ebbbef89262170d1ade.pdf

@jonathansterne I'm here grumping with you on the loss of RSS. We had it good.

This is speculative, but I always thought that Mastodon would work best with instances run by a large friend group. A giant group chat of a local timeline that comes with the ability to shake hands with other conversations elsewhere...

some evolving weekend notes, links and quotes on forays into the fediverse 📝✨

critical engagements with digital data, methods and infrastructures

Just joined Mastodon.social as part of the #twittermigration. Excited to connect with folks in this community especially those interested in digital technology, politics, ethnic studies, feminist STS and history of technology.
