Nice to be back with my boys after traveling for a few days.
Re-reading this work by Walter Rodney in preparation for something I'm writing on racial capitalism and the environment. Wow - he does a fantastic job illustrating how racialized class structures and ecological systems are mutually embedded and interlocking across the micro, meso, and macro levels. #racialcapitalism #walterrodney
Just registered for #SASE2023 in Rio de Janeiro. Looking forward to presenting research in the "Theories and Practices of Racial Capitalism" section. This is sure to be a stimulating and invigorating conference! @sociology

Today Lula is set to meet Biden at the White House. Last night when I came across this booklet (literatura de cordel) I was reminded just how remarkable Lula's comeback is, from being political prisoner to president.

"We want Lula free because Lula is innocent"

In my undergrad race class today we were learning about how colorblind policies are not racially neutral in practice due to structural racism. And as an example I used this passage from a Brett Kavanaugh opinion on paying college athletic workers.

Hi folks! I'm a sociologist who studies racial and environmental inequalities, focusing on Brazil and the US. I'm currently finishing a book on racial capitalism in contemporary Brazil. I'm looking forward to some fruitful exchanges on this platform!
