In the quiet stillness, broken only by the sound of the shutter of my camera, the interior of St Winwaloe's Church in Church Cove, Cornwall.
This ancient place of worship, dedicated to a popular Breton saint, is said to be one of the oldest in Cornwall and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
I haven't come across a church that is closer to the beach than this one and 18th century churchwardens’ accounts show that sand had to regularly removed from the churchyard and the church!
It was once known as 'the Church of the Storms' and its precarious position has meant that frequently, over the centuries, had to be reinforced by depositing large quantities of granite into the gap between the church and the beach to break the force of the waves.
Church Cove itself is on Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula.
