The Exhausting Fight of Just Wanting to Survive Biking in Minneapolis

Cyclists have as much right to city infrastructure as do cars, trucks and SUVs. So why can’t the City of Minneapolis see it that way?

Why #pedestrian #infrastructure matters (a thread):

I have to drop my car off at the shop later this week for some maintenance that requires me to leave it for an afternoon. The shop is not really withing my walking radius (especially in July), and my partner’s and my work schedules make it inconvenient for me to ask her for a ride at the time I need it. (1/12)

I really try to keep an open mind in local races but this is disqualifying.

(As is hitting)

Durham Officials Directed City Attorney to Try to Unmask Anonymous Wikipedia Editors

The Mayor and two city council members pushed the city attorney to take formal action this summer to identify several Wikipedia users who were editing the elected officials’ pages.

In case you didn’t hear, or aren’t from #DurhamNC: last week a bizarre car crash (maybe involving a shooting, maybe not, it’s not 100% clear at the moment) resulted in a car driving fully into the middle of Rofhiwa Books, a Black+Queer-owned bookstore here in Durham. (While they were closed, thankfully.)

The place is TRASHED and even though they are insured, it’ll take a while to get things sorted. In the meantime, they have to take care of their employees.

This is a link to a GoFundMe to help with that, and all the myriad other things insurance is bound not to fully cover: https://gofund.me/316d7d49

This isn’t a great look for members of the city council to be on a weird censorship hunt on Wikipedia of all places. And frankly, just childish methods: https://indyweek.com/news/durham/durham-officials-directed-city-attorney-to-try-to-unmask-anonymous-wikipedia-editors/ #durhamnc #durham #nc #bullcity #BullCityPol #BullCityNews

At the quarterly meeting of the WA Traffic Safety Commission, Dir. Shelly Baldwin announces that through the end of June, 348 people lost their lives on Washington roadways - very close to 2 people every single day of the year so far.

Waiting at a corner at a light to change aboard my rather-unique cargobike, a VW Golf packed with my kid’s classmates screamed out, “HI ELLIE’S DAD!!!”

I cannot overstate the ego boost that results from operating a vehicle that makes you locally famous(ish) with kids.

Cyclists queuing up at the busiest intersection of Utrecht. Imagine these scenes if all those bikes were cars...
