Please sign on, #DurhamNC. We can't just expand #library hours without paying for more #librarians time. Especially given the extra load of dealing with right-wing lunatics these days.

Durham Library Workers Need Your Help!

Durham library workers need your support! Please consider taking action!

I was glad to see this *Indy* article digging into the mess of #DurhamNC politics, but the author spends a LOT of time spreading rumors and quoting people on topics they are not trustworthy about. It reinforces the 'progressive white folks versus older Black folks' trope, and is not that helpful in shining actual sunlight on things. But I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

This is so gross of Freeman and Holsey-Hyman to try to scrub #Wikipedia of facts about themselves! I wish I could say it was surprising. I also wish I didn't suspect Leonardo Williams of planting this story to aid his own campaign.

#BullCityPol is much too interesting!

Anyhow, I think we're about to see a textbook case of the Streisand Effect in #DurhamNC elections this fall and I am getting my popcorn ready.

“It’s not a good look for public officials to be expending public resources, public tax dollars, and the city attorney’s time to try to identify people” who publish factual information they don’t like, says Enrique Armijo, a professor at Elon University School of Law who specializes in First Amendment issues.

“Never mind the whole long-standing First Amendment interest in protecting the anonymity of people who criticize public officials,” he adds. “It’s just not what we want to be doing.”

This isn’t a great look for members of the city council to be on a weird censorship hunt on Wikipedia of all places. And frankly, just childish methods: https://indyweek.com/news/durham/durham-officials-directed-city-attorney-to-try-to-unmask-anonymous-wikipedia-editors/ #durhamnc #durham #nc #bullcity #BullCityPol #BullCityNews

The plot thickens! Of all the announced candidates for Durham Mayor so far, I can say that Mike Woodard is far and away the most qualified.

Jillian is one of the best local elected officials I've ever seen in action - and I've seen a lot! I used to wish we could clone her so we could have twice as much energy and ideas.

Now we'll have to face the impossible task of replacing her. Especially hard at a time when reactionaries have been moving the Council to the right.
