This is hilarious. It appears that Twitter is DDOSing itself.

The Twitter home feed's been down for most of this morning. Even though nothing loads, the Twitter website never stops trying and trying.

In the first video, notice the error message that I'm being rate limited. Then notice the jiggling scrollbar on the right.

The second video shows why it's jiggling. Twitter is firing off about 10 requests a second to itself to try and fetch content that never arrives because Elon's latest genius innovation is to block people from being able to read Twitter without logging in.

This likely created some hellish conditions that the engineers never envisioned and so we get this comedy of errors resulting in the most epic of self-owns, the self-DDOS.

Unbelievable. It's amateur hour.

OK, language weirdness question.

Someone recently said:

"I just about caught the train."

Did they catch it or not? Perhaps it depends whether you think of English as (one of) your first language(s).

As always, if you're happy to do so I'd be grateful if you'd boost for reach, and to get beyond my circle of followers.

Thank you!

Oh hi, happy new year! *cough*

I've been sparing Mastodon my #Eurovision national finals hot takes. You're welcome.

My Christmas gift to everyone is the opportunity to download a copy of my 2014 eBook ‘Pressing Matters Vol 2’ absolutely free from Amazon. Pressing Matters is my insider history of Press for Change, Britain’s trans rights campaign, which began in 1992. This second volume, which can be read alone, charts our activity from about 1998 to 2007 and thus takes in all the legislative advances in that time, including the GRA. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, not that to those who don't (by which I don't mean have a shit one)

The thing that's going to fuck Twitter with that new policy on linking is not blocking Mastodon links.

It's blocking Insta.

Politics Twitter is shouty but not actually the bulk of the platform.

That's celebs and lifestyle. And that stuff is pure insta crossover territory.

Twitter is now banning links to Mastodon, Post, Facebook, Instagram, and banning other linktree type links https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/social-platforms-policy
