Biden, House GOP refuse to budge as key debt ceiling deadline looms

While Treasury can employ extraordinary measures to keep making payments for the next few months, it's a bad sign for how messy the standoff will grow.

Elon finally realizing he runs the SA Forums and he can do what he wants

I think journalists still don’t understand that they add value to #twitter by posting content on it, that’s the only power of Twitter. Elon bought a social medium to literally own the libs, and it’s the libs’ fault that they put all their eggs in HIS basket. It’s time for respected news sources, respected personalities and respected businesses, to leave this conquered feudal territory.

That there are systemic traps that trap workers in America so they feel unable to move freely to new employers who want them and would have better pay or conditions is *nuts* and deserves a lot more attention than it gets.

Abandoned as a rail corridor in the 1980s, the Dequindre Cut in Detroit almost become an expressway to a new riverfront casino in the 1990s. Instead, it became one of the more impressive greenways/#cycling corridors of any city in North America. #cities #biketooter #transport #urbanism

After the death of RSS, legacy media became even more dependent on Twitter.

They didn't just use it to distribute the news, they used it to *find* news.

It got to the point that in many media companies, your social status as a journalist was measured by how good you were at Twitter.

You got to understand that, for legacy media, Twitter *became* the Internet. And because of that, the Blue Check badge became ever more desirable.

In recent years, we became too comfortable letting #Twitter define journalism & media. Algorithms often dictated the narratives we collectively paid attention to.

Absurd trends were covered by news outlets & ballooned into major stories while we missed so much real substance. And the quick takes of uninformed politicians & bad actors were forced upon anyone participating in the network.

It was bad for democracy. The #Mastodon model makes me hopeful we can do better. #twittermigration
