DOGE goon accused of breaking Treasury privacy rules by emailing personal data - Lemmy.World

Summary A staffer for Elon Musk’s DOGE violated Treasury policy by emailing a spreadsheet containing personal information to other Trump administration officials without encryption or approval. Marko Elez, who previously resigned over links to racist social media content before being rehired, was found to have broken protocol during a forensic analysis prompted by a lawsuit from 19 state attorneys general. A forensic analysis confirmed he failed to encrypt the data or get approval. The incident has reinforced concerns about “rushed and chaotic” onboarding processes as DOGE seeks greater data access amid ongoing legal challenges.

The Free Speech Protection Act will provide strong protections to nearly all speakers who are discussing issues of public concern. https://act.eff.org/action/protect-free-speech-from-harassing-lawsuits
Protect Free Speech From Harassing Lawsuits

Deep-pocketed individuals and corporations have been turning to civil lawsuits to silence their opponents. These Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, or SLAPPs, aren’t designed to win on the merits, but rather to harass journalists, activists, and consumers into silence by suing them over their protected speech. Now there’s a bill in Congress that will allow speakers targeted by SLAPPs to fight back, by getting the lawsuits quickly thrown out of federal court, and allow for SLAPP victims to get their legal fees back. The Free Speech Protection Act, sponsored by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), will protect people from getting sued just for exercising their constitutional rights.
