“Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed. That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore." - AR Moxon

@frigginglorious

Not a pop group per se, but "American Idiot" by Green Day was number 1 for a while. I guess you could consider it an antifascist critique of media. I don't really listen to rap, but I would think there are antifascist rap songs that have made the top 10.

@lowqualityfacts He stopped that shit after trying to punt a 900 lb Galapagos tortoise and breaking his foot.
@historyofpunkrock Oddly enough, the first time I heard this song was on the Dr. Demento Show.

@historyofpunkrock

There are so many great options for each. Off of the top of my head, maybe the following (though it might change with some reflection):

Bill Stevenson - drummer
Paul Simonon - bassist
Johnny Thunders - guitarist
Tim McIlrath - singer

@historyofpunkrock Love this song. The surf guitar towards the end was so unusual to hear at the time in a punk song, though East Bay Ray was fusing surf with punk at about the same time.

I wonder if Mike Palm and East Bay Ray brought in that sound independently. I think I read somewhere that Palm's cousin played in an early surf band, so maybe.

@historyofpunkrock The first time I saw or heard Devo was their appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1978. It was like: Whoah! Who are these guys? I've never seen or heard anything like them! Kinda weird, but very, very cool.

@mwichary One option is the second to last sentence of the Declaration of Independence. It has far too many characters for me to post.

Another option: “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” A Tale of Two Cities

@Tay0 @historyofpunkrock The last time I bashed cassettes, a bunch of people jumped to their defense. You're dead on though.
