I do programming as my full-time job. Also I love to do design and take photos. This is semi-anon account...

@Daojoan It is much easier to open up to someone on the internet. If they don't like you, you can forget about it and never talk to that person again. You might even block each other. So the price of misunderstanding is extremely low.

Real life is not like that. In real life we have "small talk" to fill the awkward silence. Notice there is no small talk on the internet? That's the goal in life too: talking about something meaningful with strangers... But damn it's hard...

@Daojoan It's not like those people in particular don't talk to their neighbors, it's more like for all of us it became much easier to talk to someone on the other side of the globe (like you quite literally might be from me). Than it is to talk to someone who lives right next to you for 15 years...

@Daojoan Do you mean that in a good way? Like yeah, they kinda do build tools which connect humanity. Imagine any big tech... Tools might not be good, but they are still useful.

At the same time this sounds negative like "why don't they try to talk to people themselves first".

@grumpy_website Yes! It always annoyed me. It should be an afternoon fix, but its been like this for ages

You might like to use 2 or 4 spaces for indentation. But real Ada developers use 3 spaces.

@kristoff do you think this move will have negative impact on Zig discoverability? Or Zig already surpassed this threshold and is generally known enough?
@nixCraft Mastodon should add code blocks btw
@engideer @nixCraft exactly. For me personally, I prefer having LLMs in chat interface in a browser, not in my editor. As it adds friction and allows to think for yourself
@engideer @nixCraft I don't really like drawing analogy. The point of code is to do the job. If you need some functionality, u can try to vibe code it, and if it works — you're golden. But art is not code, art looses value from being generated, because it is the end product. Source code is not the end product (mostly), user should not care on how neat the code is if it just works (it will be maintainer pain tho). So i guess it is more acceptable to use AI generated code than it is to post AI art
@poleguy @nixCraft I think I do, but it's very slim group of people tbh
