@[email protected] Thanks for the heads-up. Wasn’t aware that the BBC was driving transphobia. I had always - from a distance - considered them a reasonably good source of news and journalism at least compared to most US MSM which is quite open about its transphobia, racism, corporatism, etc. The bar is low over here. But will now keep an extra eye out.
My writeup of the poll results -> A third of Mastodon’s current user base do not plan to follow anyone on #Threads, so Meta’s ambition to join the #fediverse isn't a given. https://thenewstack.io/poll-one-third-of-mastodon-users-wont-follow-threads-users/
Poll: One-Third of Mastodon Users Won't Follow Threads Users

A third of Mastodon’s current user base do not plan to follow anyone on Threads, so Meta’s plan to join the fediverse isn't a given.

https://www.platformer.news/p/five-reasons-threads-could-still This is so fucking stupid. Casey Newton obviously hasn’t used Threads. If they did they would have found a portapotty full of spam and Instagram people trying to sound intellectual - kill me now. Sure if you have 2 billion people already being manipulated on your networks, you can convert a couple hundred million of them to try out Threads. That doesn’t add up to shit in the first month. Yes we all want alternatives to Elon’s Twitter dumpster fire. Threads ain’t close.
Five reasons Threads could still go the distance

One week later, engagement is down — but the prize is still there for the taking

@Techmeme Has Casey Newton actually fucking used Threads?? It’s a cess pit of spam and inanity. I mean we all love to make fun of Elon’s not-invented-here Twitter but Threads is an absolute schmishmortion.
@ZLabe Thank you for sharing. We are fucked.

#Threads is not federating with #Mastodon. Not anytime soon, maybe not ever.

In case you missed the #Meta inside information from the Verge's Alex Heath: "Re: ActivityPub integration, it's still a priority for Threads but a "long" way out." https://mastodon.social/@alexeheath/110713788758597963

This whole federating with Threads thing has never made any sense and now we see it is very likely they have just been playing us the whole time. Let's stop falling for this nonsense and get back to building great open social media.

bluesky staff behaviour makes more sense if you remember that they are crypto bros.

imagine a human NFT lecturing you on how humans totally behave, and their baffled outrage when they're wrong (again)

I want to go back to the late 90s and tell everyone that Fran Drescher and Dolly Parton are going to be more important in 30 years than you expect
Apple should come out in solidarity with SAG/AFTRA. They have enough money to rise above the fray and do what is right: defend the rights of writers and actors, without whom the whole entertainment industry collapses.
