My writeup of the poll results -> A third of Mastodon’s current user base do not plan to follow anyone on #Threads, so Meta’s ambition to join the #fediverse isn't a given. https://thenewstack.io/poll-one-third-of-mastodon-users-wont-follow-threads-users/
Poll: One-Third of Mastodon Users Won't Follow Threads Users

A third of Mastodon’s current user base do not plan to follow anyone on Threads, so Meta’s plan to join the fediverse isn't a given.

https://www.platformer.news/p/five-reasons-threads-could-still This is so fucking stupid. Casey Newton obviously hasn’t used Threads. If they did they would have found a portapotty full of spam and Instagram people trying to sound intellectual - kill me now. Sure if you have 2 billion people already being manipulated on your networks, you can convert a couple hundred million of them to try out Threads. That doesn’t add up to shit in the first month. Yes we all want alternatives to Elon’s Twitter dumpster fire. Threads ain’t close.

#Threads is not federating with #Mastodon. Not anytime soon, maybe not ever.

In case you missed the #Meta inside information from the Verge's Alex Heath: "Re: ActivityPub integration, it's still a priority for Threads but a "long" way out." https://mastodon.social/@alexeheath/110713788758597963

This whole federating with Threads thing has never made any sense and now we see it is very likely they have just been playing us the whole time. Let's stop falling for this nonsense and get back to building great open social media.

bluesky staff behaviour makes more sense if you remember that they are crypto bros.

imagine a human NFT lecturing you on how humans totally behave, and their baffled outrage when they're wrong (again)

Apple should come out in solidarity with SAG/AFTRA. They have enough money to rise above the fray and do what is right: defend the rights of writers and actors, without whom the whole entertainment industry collapses.
it's genuinely wild how we heard nothing but long winded platitudes on how innovative silicon valley was for like 20 straight years and it's all culminated in a bunch of the dullest, most petulant billionaires imaginable all just copying each other's version of a very basic chat app

Just tried #threads. The experience was like this.

Opens door.
Steps outside.
(Sound of howling wind)
Runs back inside terrified.
Slams door and leans body into it.

It reminds me a huge old school Internet chat room where everyone tries to talk at the same time and it’s vertigo inducing.
