Maybe not necessarily "socialist" but species that are highly technologically-advanced need to be highly empathetic and good at collective decision-making & conflict resolution, otherwise:

"It’s been suggested that any civilization that survives the invention of atomic weapons and ventures into the stars must have embraced peaceful cooperation, or else it would have destroyed itself."

Yep.

I think successful aliens civilization gotta be anarchist, tbh.

Are Aliens Who Visit Earth Likely to Be Socialist?

A.M. Gittlitz says that aliens would need to be socialist to survive long enough to develop interstellar travel, while Corey Pein argues that socialism is a human concept tied to earthly circumstances.

You may have read about an entity called "The Social Coop Ltd" acquiring several popular Mastodon instances. This entity has no relation whatsoever to social.coop. Due to the risk of confusion, we have reached out to them to discuss the situation.

We (social.coop) are a co-operatively run Mastodon instance that was founded in 2017. Read more about us here: https://wiki.social.coop/home.html

Provocation: anyone expecting to use Mastodon at no cost is inviting the entry of ads and VCs to this space.

We need commons, not dependency.

@joeycastillo Joey, I've just had an idea for a gadget: an open book combined with a cheap writing tablet, like the wacom ones -- maybe with a clamshell design? I wonder if there's an off-the-shelf part available for that? Otherwise, I'd be interested in getting an #OpenBook and hacking together support for those wacom bluetooth tablets. I'd really like an inexpensive (and #FOSS ) writing tablet in my daily life.

@tripu My pleasure, whatever you do -- please avoid Mercator projection in favor of something more modern (and in a way, geographically representative)! I think it's particularly good to have equal area (unless you specifically and transparently want to focus on a certain region). I think a Lambert azimuthal disk map would look really cool, although for more traditional Winkel III (chosen by National Geographic) is also nice. #map
@tripu If you're willing to go the trouble, laser cutting and engraving mdf or plywood sheets with separate continents should be quite inexpensive (esp. If there's a maker space nearby), then you can glue or double-side tape to the wall (being careful with contiment positioning), also quite aesthetically pleasing :)
@Dubikan @andrewjohnbates @Sheril I believe the resolution of this apparent paradox is that we can trust science from generalization. We understand the basic methods of science, the important (and relevant) theories like evolution, classical physics and some cosmology, and so on. Then we need to trust or hope, in a logical way, that other scientists generally are doing their jobs, critically examining evidence and verifying their theories. The trust is strong, not absolute.
@[email protected] Good luck!! It is such an awesome project (I use p5 a lot) and music in it would be really cool. You have my vote of confidence and good wishes :)

1) Society will be oriented around the wellness of all beings, minding their preferences, diversity and understanding what makes people live good lives;

2) Ethics will be far better understood and partially formalized; most people will agree on a core set of ethical values around the values of all sentient beings; we will educate future generations on robust ethics;

3) We will make slow, careful, wise changes to our society and economic systems toward more fulfilling lives.
