Seeing some posts talking about fediblocking turning Mastodon into a "filter bubble." No. We absolutely do not need abusive or fascist views to have a high level of intellectual diversity. Full stop. That hate can fester somewhere else.

After 20 years of social media, the experiment has been run. Hateful people are unconvinced by rational argument, so there's no point engaging with them.

This is a rotten, disingenuous, meritless argument, from A to Z.

Fascism is to be defeated, not debated.

Hi new follows and friends, I'm going to be moving over to @gnomic_heresy in the next couple of days, to support a smaller instance and leave more room on the landing pad for new users. I am going to try the migration thing and hope it goes smoothly. #fediverse #migration #breadcrumbs
My favorite technology is that of machines made purely for the sake of delight. These paper lanterns from China are full of electric lights and, for some, interior frames allowing whimsical animation. They were imported to the Louisville Zoo earlier this year in a celebration of the Year of the Tiger. Walking the winding pedway through their midst at night was a brilliant high point in my year.

Maybe you all know this already but twitter allowed academics who are otherwise marginalised by white, male hieracrchies to enjoy reach and visibility. (Yes, I count myself as a beneficiary here).

For many who have 'odd' names that don't get cited as much, or people who cannot travel to present talks easily, or are not invited as often or speak in unfamiliar accents, it was a chance to let their work and message speak for itself.

We'll need to reclaim that possibility for everyone. #Academic

hey if you're a journalist for a jewish pub on journa.host looking for a new home, hit me up

Christian and Christian-culture friends, a key part of fighting Christian nationalism from your vantage is acknowledging how much Christian hegemony you have accepted as standard and appropriate.

It’s just natural and normal to hear Jingle Bells at the mall!

I have a request.

Bad actors will soon figure out - if they haven't already - that setting up impersonations of important organizations now will allow them to set off an explosion of chaos and confusion at a time of their choosing.

So if you run an account for an organization (especially #LGBTQ), please set up link verification between your Mastodon account profile and your organization's website.

If not, please boost.

Instructions are here under "Link Verification":

Here's a threaded statement, just from me: #fediblock #trans #journalism

Please no RT from other admin on my server.

I am not leaving journa.host. I do consider Mike Pesca personally transphobic. I will not extend the benefit of the doubt to Pesca, having shared an open plan office with the dude on a few occasions, and with his well known radio voice carrying quite well, as it happens.

Hi Mastodoning Mates. Any chance you could boost me a bit as I'm struggling to find folk I originally followed on the Twitter. Is that how this works? I'm ASD and find new systems like this and written-instructions a major headache and very confusing.

OK so heres my all time fav image, #Christchurch #NewZealand , taken morning of Sept 3rd 2010, the day before we were hit with a 7.3mag Earthquake (Darfield) that started a series of quite literally massive events that changed all our lives.

First photo I had worked my way into the scene manually controlling exposure, building the frame and waiting for the person walking through on the way to work. #canon 7D with 17-55ef-s
