Well, well, well. The Netherlands national archive is, for the first time, publicly posting all 450.000 dossiers on people who, in one form or another, collaborated with the nazis during the nazi occupation of '40-'45. A lot of people are very worried about this, because most of this information has never been made public.

"After the war, everybody was in the resistance" is a saying we have here. We're about to find out just how truthful that cynical saying really is.

It seems to me that trump's and vance's unhinged racist and sexist rants no longer have as their objective to rally voters, but rather to rally soldiers for the post-election armed takeover they are planning, having given up on even a gerrymandered election victory.

Basically, a good way to never trust "it's okay, the data is anonymized" again is simply knowing what the "Hemisphere Program" is.

https://www.eff.org/cases/hemisphere

In short, the US government got access to number from, number to, datetime, length and sometimes location information for every call passing through AT&T's network from 1987 to today.

Then they ran an algorithm to de-anonymize every burner phone based on behavior. They did this because maybe some of those burners were used by drug dealers.

Hemisphere: Law Enforcement's Secret Call Records Deal With AT&T

For almost 10 years, federal and local law enforcement agencies across the country have engaged in a massive and secretive telephone surveillance program known as “Hemisphere.” Publicly disclosed for the first time in September 2013 by the New York Times, the Hemisphere program provides police...

CNN is flummoxed, foundering, and ruderless. They might has well have had Vanna White at the debate, pointing to the next question. The Times is broken. The Post is being invaded from within. Murdoch's empire has been successful at its insurrectionist mission. Sinclair is accessory to that crime. Hedge funds control most newspaper chains. News media are a dire disaster and, no, it's not a crisis of business. It is a crisis of mission.

TED offered a vision of the world where complex societal issues could be solved with a lightbulb moment and a well-designed PowerPoint presentation.

Climate change? There's an app for that.

Poverty? A social entrepreneur with a TED talk has it figured out.

It was a worldview that flattered millennials' sense of ourselves as changemakers while conveniently ignoring the systemic barriers to real change.

On the one hand, it’s a good thing that @[email protected] joined the #fediverse https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/2/24119353/joe-biden-threads-mastodon-activitypub-fediverse so that everyone can subscribe to official statements without having to use Twitter, AKA X. On the other hand, that namespace should be @[email protected] & be announced with a blog post that shares a strategy for a federal open social web & online Q&A. The void of policy here is frustrating.
President Biden is now posting into the fediverse

President Joe Biden’s Threads account has turned on fediverse integration, sending posts to ActivityPub platforms like Mastodon.

"This week showed that, thanks to these increasingly organized cumulative efforts, resistance to AI has reached a fever pitch —it is robust, far-reaching, and impeding OpenAI’s ability to continue successfully generating a mythology about itself." - @brianmerchant
