If Arduino would have been a cooperative instead of a corporation, things might have ended in better ways. I am more and more convinced that a cooperative is the best form of incorporation and governance for open source/hardware projects. It limits the power of ego(maniacs). It cannot be sold that easy. It gives fair decision power. While still being free to make money, something foundations cannot do that easy.
