Apple doesn’t let you access iCloud storage using third-party sync or backup tools. How do you handle creating your own backup of iCloud Drive and iCloud Photos? Some thoughts @sixcolors in my “Help Me, Glenn!” column: https://sixcolors.com/post/2025/07/keep-an-active-copy-of-your-icloud-drive-and-icloud-synced-photos-library/
How to back up iCloud Drive and Photos

Cloud synchronization makes it easy to have a copy of your stuff everywhere, and, through optimization, to avoid filling your local storage with your least-accessed files or media, which is often t…

I’ve launched the standalone site for purchasing Six Centuries of Type & Printing, a cloth-bound hardcover book, which is paired with the ebook edition. You can also buy the ebook by itself, snag the unabridged audio edition, and add letterpress-printed bookmarks. (Digital and physical items ship around July 20.) https://sixcent.info/

@mwichary just used Gorton Perfected on some inventory labels!
@kyleniemeyer Thank you! I just handled 300 copies while signing those and it was kind of surreal and wonderful. Usually an author only sees a handful of copies. The binding and printing is very good—all praise to the craftspeople.

@exchgr I did a Centarl Europe tour in late November 2022 with my older child…paid < $100/night in five major cities for room with two beds, sometimes including an elaborate breakfast. (The one in Prague had *three rooms of food* in a modest place.) Sometimes only visitors in museums…uncrowded restaurants. Just glorious. Venice was still insane in early December, though cheap. Hotel's breakfast room overlooked Grand Canal.

Hot take: Dan Bongino is quitting the FBI to return to podcasting because every day he goes to work he's confronted with the fact he's an incompetent lout, the dumbest person in any given room; but by returning to the shameless lying meathead huckster shtick that he pioneered, and thanks to Zuck putting a foot on the scales, he'll be back to the top of Facebook impressions on day one.

The most genuine of American success stories: always failing upward.

@lapcatsoftware My favorite tiny museum in London is the Brunel Museum, which has a decent, small collection and low entry price, but they also let you into the former borehead for the first tunnel under the Thames! The tunnel is still in use !!, but you can walk down a spiral staircase to the capped bottom.
@glennf @lapcatsoftware fyi @simon is a certified expert in tiny museums, he has a niche website the url of which escapes me at the moment
