Worth mentioning that if I can get hold of a pair of Meta's new face recog RayBan glasses I will study them with the aim to detect and hopefully disable them at a distance.

I did the same for Google Glass (covered by Wired, Hackaday, Time) back in the day. I named it Glasshole.sh.

The working title for my future Meta RayBan blocker is BanRay.sh

In today's Search Engine Games: "will it return a page about the term enclosed in doublequotes, and not some associated more common term?"

Winners:

Losers:

  • Not worth listing, these didn't have a hit at all in the first 10 links or page of results, whichever was shorter.

If I hear one more person talk about “putting our brightest people toward solving climate change”, I will scream.

Climate change is not some deep mystery waiting for a scientific breakthrough: we know exactly what causes it and how we address that. We have SOLVED climate change.

The problem is not “finding the solution”, the problem is convincing literally anyone in power that the solution is better than building billionaire bunkers in new zealand.

If the plague doesn't get me, that is.

We should have something like the Oscars but for bugs each fall.

"Best New Bug"

"Bug Lifetime Achievement Award"

"Best Independent Bug"

And special categories for Best Hymenopteran, Best Beetle, Best Tropical Bug, Best Temperate Zone Bug, Best Island Bug, Best True Bug, Best Pest... you get the idea.

"What made people think Trump would be better?"

In a lot of cases, they didn't. They didn't think it would matter at all. They were getting screwed anyway -- and have been for years under neoliberal policies favoring the ultra-rich and investor class, carried out by both Democrats and Republicans. We didn't see a massive swing toward Trump. He got mostly the same voters as always. What we saw was a collapse in Democratic turnout.

I bought $200 worth of stuff from Costco this week and they bought $0 worth of stuff from me. To resolve this deficit I will be charging myself $50 every time I go to the store. With this extra income I will build toasters, which I will attempt to sell to my local Costco for $200 each.
To incite the citizen to the active practice of simple sabotage and to keep him practicing that sabotage over sustained periods is a special problem.
