We should have something like the Oscars but for bugs each fall.

"Best New Bug"

"Bug Lifetime Achievement Award"

"Best Independent Bug"

And special categories for Best Hymenopteran, Best Beetle, Best Tropical Bug, Best Temperate Zone Bug, Best Island Bug, Best True Bug, Best Pest... you get the idea.

@futurebird I totally read this as a software developer until I reached the long words πŸ˜†
@denny @futurebird
I tried to get my boss to institute a "Bug of the Week" award for my testers. He has no sense of humour :D
@denny @futurebird I did too. It's a great idea for software bugs.
@futurebird Half the fun is seeing them on stage; they wouldn't appear. (|:-(
@futurebird can we have a worst beetle?

@CatDragon

Why... got someone in mind?

@futurebird Japanese beetles are so invasive here right now. They’re pretty but they eat everything.
@futurebird
Ooh, I nominate the bone collector for best caterpillar: https://www.popsci.com/environment/caterpillar-bone-collector/
'Bone collector' caterpillar wears the body parts of dead bugs

And it's a spider's nightmare.

Popular Science

@futurebird

@catselbow @futurebird I nominate fireflies for Best Lighting Design in a Drama Series or Miniseries
@futurebird
For a moment there I thought you might have been referring to digital β€œbugs”! 😹
That might be a fun idea too, especially when you see some of the goofy game bugs that happen from time to time 😹
But real bugs in β€œinsecta” are definitely a good idea!!!

@em_and_future_cats @futurebird Did you know that the "First actual case of a bug being found." was really a moth?

@futurebird here in Aotearoa New Zealand we've been voting for "Bird of the Year" for a while now. It's a fun way to promote awareness for our native birds. Recently they added a new thing: "Bug of the year"

New Zealand Bug of the Year

@futurebird It took me too long to figure out this wasn't about programming bugs...
