Alt text included. It was a challenging exercise for me and at first I struggled. It was only after I spent time thinking about my photography and how it is an expression of something in me that I was able the articulate this text.
The photo isn’t a portrait of the bird but an expression of how I felt about it and the surrounding natural setting at that moment. The photo tries to convey something of the bird in the environment where it lives.

@Swede1952 woodpeckers are amazing! Their long tongues retract and wrap around to the back of their heads. The tongue is an integral part of cranial anatomy and act as a cushion to protect the birds skull and brain when it strikes a tree in search of food or when excavating a nesting cavity
