PEN Sydney strongly condemns the detention of Baha’i writer and poet Mahvash Sabet in Evin prison, Tehran, who is currently being held in solitary confinement. Sabet was awarded the 2017 PEN Pinter Prize and was recognised as an International Writer of Courage for her powerful book of Prison Poems, written during a previous 10 year detention.
In Australia, the growth in the X* clan of recombinant lineages has mostly been driven by the new XBF "Bythos" lineage (12%).
The XBF recombinant is a mixture of BA.5.2.3 and CJ.1 (a descendant of BM.1.1 "Mimas", itself descended from BA.2.75 "Centaurus").
Following the relative success of XBB in other countries, XBF is only the second recombinant lineage ever to achieve significant growth (over 1% frequency) anywhere in the world. It looks set to take over dominance in at least Victoria.
The XBB.1 "Hippogryph" lineage dominated Singapore's October wave. But it peaked at only 4% in Australia (after many weeks) and has recently been declining, outcompeted by the other new lineages discussed above.
It doesn't seem particularly relevant to draw comparisons between the outcomes of that wave in Singapore and the current waves in Australian states.
