I cannot explain how much of an impact this mini documentary has had on me.

I have heard about Jerry and his map about a decade ago and thought it was wonderful.

But being reminded of it again means that it might have hit me at just the right time / age.

@slash yeah it's nice, also it made me realize i can switch pentatonic modes inside a 7 notes scale, i mostly play bass and the idea of adding a fourth or fifth up depending on if i want a lighter or darker sound blew my mind

Darkness is a concept I took from https://colortreemusic.com/ , it's basically adding fourths instead of fifths if you think in a 12edo western music style. It's how they explain modes, like Dorian is the most neutral mode because its as much light as dark (aka its composed of three fifths up, three fourth ups from root).

@aw i'm no expert in schemes and lisps, but I ended up liking Janet the most. Builds binaries too, small comunity, std lib + spork (extend std lib) has almost everything you need. I'll take a look at chicken!

You probably should not use link shorteners, here's why:

- All links on Mastodon count as 23 characters no matter how long they really are. There is no need to shorten links on Mastodon, it won't save you any space.

- Link shorteners endanger privacy by allowing click tracking, and by hiding what is actually being clicked.

- Shortener providers will shut down, breaking all their links. e.g. Google's shortened links will all show 404 errors from September: https://chaos.social/@root42/114929876895398208
