They have gotten pricier, with the Ubass getting past its infancy. It has been less than five years since I started seeing them. I three, two of them fretless. I prefer the fretless ones. They can mimic an upright really well. All mine were under 200$, but I will eventually splurge on a really nice one

They are awesome and very affordable, on Amazon. Plenty of good ones for less than 150. Search “Ubass”.
They sound surprisingly great through an amp, and loud
