@mimsical I use wired headphones (IEMs) and listen to high fidelity audio (96-192khz).
Now that I'm used to how good it sounds I don't use streaming apps. The quality from the physical wire is very refreshing, I also have a music player that is text only, so I can type the name of the song and it plays, no user interface.
It is still digital, but I find it calming and grounding.
This made me laugh quite hard, well written.

Phoning home is important, but Phoning the host (which _could_ also be restricted) would be necessary, otherwise, the host could Phone home.
The exploits would also have to be linux and win32 (likely individually written) so it would be a more sophisticated situation, but putting a docker image as a safe box in a live workstation seams a bit error prone.

Most massive successes are bumpy rides or sleepers, Harry Potter sat on shelves at first, and the development of the movie Rocky was turned down, a reported 1500 times, or the Avicci set at Ultra, are my favorite examples.
The beauty of the internet has been that everything seams possible, but the shame of it is how narrow the timespan of evaluating those successes have become.
I think the honest verdict for mastodon is "We won't know for a _while_".

The begining of this artcle is fantastic, about how successful people push past obstacles through extreme sacririce.
But the susceptabulity to minipulation is not well connected, that sounds like a leap.
It's also possible they are just amplified versions of people whose every day faults are just as bad but have less noticable or lasting consequences.
