The begining of this artcle is fantastic, about how successful people push past obstacles through extreme sacririce.
But the susceptabulity to minipulation is not well connected, that sounds like a leap.
It's also possible they are just amplified versions of people whose every day faults are just as bad but have less noticable or lasting consequences.
