“Rocket launches didn’t get Americans to believe in space travel, the media did,“ says author Walt Hickey. Hear the compelling story of how movies in the 1950s helped prepare the public for space travel, long before NASA was created. It’s “Your Mind on Movies” on Big Picture Science.

23andMe was hacked and DNA records of 7 million people were compromised. Originally they said it was 14,000.

They just sent out an innocuous sounding email about change in Terms of Service.

If you do not respond rejecting the change, you will give up the ability to be part of the class action lawsuits that are being filed, or take action in court against them.

They sent this out before they are notifying those whose data were breached.

Strongly recommend you opt out of the change.

We would be greatful if you could amplify our voice & let your followers know that the Auschwitz Memorial is present in #fediverse: @auschwitzmuseum

Every day we commemorate the victims & educate about the tragic human history of #Auschwitz.

Auschwitz is a place that shows where hatred, antisemitism and contempt for a fellow man led people decades ago.

It is also a place where we should reflect on our individual and collective responsibility for the world we live in.

Legitimately heartwarming. In 1920 a 6 y'old girl was bitten by a snake and a Royal Australian Navy ship was the closest medical help. At the time the RAN wasn't allowed to render medical aid to civilians, so the captain enlisted her on the spot so she could be treated. She was discharged after eight days of service.

@pluralistic hi! I don’t know if this is a common error, but I received two copies of “The Internet Con” in two different shipments. I checked kickstarter and I appear to have only paid for one. I hope this hasn’t been too widespread! I’m looking forward to reading one and keeping one in pristine condition…
I just saw that Baldurs Gate 3 was released today and looked up the release date of BG2. Sept 2000, so it has been 23 years between installments! I wonder if that is some kind of record for a series?

Dear journalists: Twitter is now the platform of choice for right-wing extremists -- a platform where they are welcomed, promoted, and even in some cases paid by Musk's site.

Why, when there are real alternatives, is it still your site?

Pls boost so I can show my wife how a toot can go round the world

(we are boarding a long haul flight and will be on the other side of the world when I turn my phone back on, so even with 0 boosts I think this will be a sound demonstration)
I just heard a math joke but I'm 2² to say it.
Did Twitter get worse or is it just my browser? My following tab doesn't work and the "For you" tab gives me a few tweets from people I follow before showing me shit I don't care about.
