Full-stack developer, getting back into gaming with my Steam Deck.

Currently working on a project involving Cloudflare Workers and IMAP, which includes writing a lib for IMAP on CF Workers - https://github.com/Exerra/cf-imap

Coincidentally, starting to dislike e-mail.

I chose the worst day to set up a #Sharkey instance - the day after a massive storm when a lot of infrastructure is down and my download speed is 1mbps 🫠

But, you know, fine. It will hurt less if the Google app shows all the relevant info. After all, it should show every piece of info it has, right?

Wrong.

Google Weather shows a per-hour simplified view of the wind direction and speed.
Apple Weather shows a graph with the wind direction (when holding for more details), speed and... gust speed.

Call me crazy, but I think gust speeds are an extremely important thing to show, especially when they are 91 km/h.

I've been using the #Weather app that comes preinstalled with my #Pixel phone and... it's not good.

We have a red warning issued for rain and wind, but you won't see that anywhere in the #Google Weather app, even if you go into a more expanded view.

#Apple Weather on the other hand immediately tells you if there is a warning.

Meteorological centre warnings are extremely important pieces of info that NEED to be clearly and immediately communicated.

@jefebromden You can set up filters in your settings! It's actually a simple process, everything is explained and intuitive :)

@serge The food we eat from other cultures also is very meaty. We are a northern country after all, and we historically have survived off of meat and dairy products.

Also, a bunch of farmers are ethical when it comes to milking cows, and a lot of people buy directly from farmers. We have one of the largest indoor markets in Europe, as well as multiple markets in cities where farmers sell their goods directly to consumers.

In rural areas many try to buy directly from farmers.

@serge I'd say its also very dependent on cultures. Latvian food basically always involves meat, and we also drink/eat a lot of dairy products. Being a vegan means I have to basically give up everything.

Our cold soup has eggs, meat and kefir (Lithuanian version omits meat). Our traditional food basically always has meat & in a lot of cases dairy products like sour cream. There is no vegan substitute for those things.

Managed to take a few cleaner photos of the fluorescent iPod with clear front I built a few days ago. When exposed to 365nm UVA, the internal components glow a warm green colour.

@FenTiger I'd like a queue, however I am implementing AP in a site that will be deployed on a serverless platform. So, basically, very limited in what I can do. Everything has to happen within that one handler (unless I make a queue CF worker, hmmm).

I solved it by making an async function with a slight delay that gets called, without await, right before the response is returned as due to limitations I can't do anything after the response.

Also, thanks, is there a badge of honour one can get 😅

The Town That Kept Building Beautifully - Kuldīga

YouTube

Very happy to see local traditional #architecture finally making a resurgence. Big props to King Charles for calling out the plague that is modernism and actually doing something about it.

Here in Latvia we have a town named Kuldīga that is very heavily trying to keep & restore its local traditional architecture, and it's great! Walking there truly feels magical and I hope more cities (& importantly architects) embrace traditionalism.
