@acw I'm of the opinion that we need to change that conversation, and recognize some hard limits that people who are campaigning can use and still expect to be elected. Which means no bullseyes on opponents pictures, no 'jokes' about 2nd amendment people doing something. (Not as sure about cautionary tales of the dangers of political assassinations, but I've actually read Cesar).

@acw I agree that we aren't there, and probably won't get there. I have faith in our system (assuming you're American). I can just see that a person could come to the conclusion this guy did. Just like, if Clinton had won, a non-zero number of Americans would be a bad week away from living in a van looking for an opportunity, and the way the 2A has been defended to the lay person could support that view.

@acw I don't think it's a stretch these days for anyone to believe that our republic may have failed us. Yes, he may have snapped, yes, he was a violent asshole to begin with. I think he would wrong to think we're at the violent overthrow point. But we're only one bad week away from that; tensions are high everywhere.

@acw Not to defend the shooting, but isn't this sort of act baked into the constitution (at least how the 2A is interpreted? Yesterday didn't happen in a vacuum, and to pretend it didn't is intellectually lazy. We all have logs in our eyes.
