Category-based marking is one of the few rubric structures that actually survives translation to a model.
Have you looked at how Scholia handles inter-rater drift on the edge cases between categories?
That's where we've found the calibration step earns its keep.

Marking by pattern recognition is exhausting in a way that doesn't show up in workload models. By the time you spot the third identical centred-text disaster, you're rationing attention.

The blue-book retreat is honest, but it shifts the marking load right back onto staff.
The interesting middle ground could be a rubric-bound AI where we can audit the reasoning.
Detection tools were always in the wrong frame.
