That... sucks.

I bet my girlfriend that this picture of our cats could get 10 billion boosts on Mastodon.

She said she doesn't believe me. She said there's only 15 million accounts on Mastodon. She said there aren't even 10 billion people on Earth. She said it concerns her that I struggle to comprehend large numbers.

Let's prove her wrong everyone. Boost away and show her just how awesome the Mastodon community is.

If you've ever wondered if it's possible to run a broadcast television network on commodity hardware using open source software when you have no idea what you're doing, the answer is absolutely yes.

We're doing it right now! Or, at least, we will be tomorrow when they plug us in to the head-end.

We're running ffplayout on the server side, building our schedules by hand (new open source scheduler and media asset manager coming Soon ™️) and outputting to SRT and RTMP.

The RTMP stream is consumed by peertube, and then spit back out to our roku channel.

The SRT stream is consumed by a piece of hardware at the cable company (that we paid for, an Impulse 300D Network Decoder)which takes the SRT stream and just shoves it in to their head end.

The Impulse Decoder is the only piece of equipment in all of this that isn't a cheap rented VPS, and whatever it's running is the only time any of these videos touch something that isn't free software.

Ads slow down the web, create a frustrating user experience, and negatively impact how we think.

Tracking, which comes hand-in-hand with ads, collects our personal data (often without consent) to increase advertising effectiveness.

Kagi products are free of ads and trackers.

>An alternate Enclosure is the only place for HLS.

The default PeerTube podcasting 2.0 feed uses hls in the enclosure which definitely breaks legacy apps.

My podcasting2 plugin puts an audio or video file in the enclosure and the hls in an alternate enclosure giving the widest backward and foreward compatibility

Not only are the "AI" conglomerates scraping everything in sight that we had the passive expectation of ownership over like our posts to launder it back to us, but the intellectual property holders are are making a killing selling work under active copyright protection to them without giving the artists and authors a dime.

The mythological narrative of copyright protecting the ability of artists to make a living was dead decades ago, but it's fully inverted into intellectual property feudalism- when the real money is from merely owning the right to a work and selling it to make products that actively undermine the value of that work, buying from intellectual property holders harms artists.

Steal shit. Venmo the author. It's the right thing to do.

Peertube with the peerhub and podcasting 2 plugins manages 24 tags, but I need to update the interop code because they've added a bunch of new tags for peerhub that are conflicting with podcasting2

@unkle.bonehead @agorise

Nice introduction to the #Peerhub #PeerTube plugin. Looks like a great evolution of where Hivetube was. I'll be testing it out on a couple of my PeerTube instances this week
