My #Wikipedia request for comment just closed, finally banning #AI content in articles! "The use of LLMs to generate or rewrite article content is prohibited"

Kudos to all who participated in writing the guideline (especially Kowal2701) and the whole WikiProject AI Cleanup team, this was very much a group effort!

New to FreeBSD and not sure where to start? You’re not alone.

In this second video of the series, I'm walking through the FreeBSD Foundation's Getting Started page.

On this page, you’ll find:
— The official FreeBSD Handbook
— Installation guides for desktops and virtual machines
— Step-by-step written walkthroughs for common setup options
— Links to community spaces: forums, Discord, Reddit, and LinkedIn

I am so glad I got the opportunity to grow up in an age where there were no restrictions on what I could do with computers I could access.

Personally I consider any attempt to remove that access from anyone as abhorrent. It is a core part of who I am.

people (eg chromium and it's javascript engine) literally do this tho?

(and it breaks all kinds of other stuff too, big VM space isn't cheap)

@tante I remember you saying something along the lines of "if you want to democratize a skill, give people spare time to learn it". everything else is a sales pitch.

I remember watching Johnny Nmemonic and reading William Gibson. They depicted dystopian futures where computer parts were rare and valuable and people hoarded disk drives like they were going out of style. I also remember how years later we laughed and laughed because it turned out memory had become cheap and ubiquitous. It seemed ridiculous that we'd run into shortages as they were depicted in those works of fiction.

Remember those times? How we laughed? Haha.

Ha fucking ha.

@cwebber It‘s like when they say „AI will only replace junior programmers“ and I want to shake them and shout at them where they think senior programmers come from

The UK has announced plans to fast-track legislation requiring “age verification for VPN use”. The correct term, however, is not age verification but identity verification.

A law like this would require everyone to identify themselves in order to use a VPN. This would pose a risk to whistleblowers, violate human rights, and represent yet another step toward an authoritarian society.

A story from my past - when I "took down a data centre" by plugging in a Dell:

https://adrianchadd.blogspot.com/2026/02/being-accused-of-taking-down-data.html

Being accused of taking down a Data Centre, or "what happens when adrian is the only one who isn't oversubscribed on power?"

This happened circa what, 2008? 2007? I forget now. Anyway, it was a while ago now - and it wasn't my fault - but at the time it was pretty ...
