Today, the Barcelona Declaration WG on Funding Metadata is publishing 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚: 𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and a companion background document.

Developed following a roundtable co-organized with @crossref the documents call for concrete action across the research ecosystem.

Things like improving CrossRef coverage will massively help this and should be part of initial automated screening (like personal info in double-blind submissions). Above a threshold of invalid refs and it's a reject & resubmit (handled automatically with option for human intervention)
