I follow a number of #StarTrek groups on Those Other Sites and there really is something fascinating in how there’s a diehard fan base for 1701-F—a vessel that’s simply a slightly bigger and sleeker 1701-E—at the expense of 1701-G, a quirky underdog ship based on a fan design that we spent 10 episodes getting to know inside and out.

I think it’s to do with the linearity being disrupted, as it’s a smaller and less heavily armed ship. In other words, the future got smaller instead of bigger.
