New paper out this week on the evolution of inter-group cooperation in ants and primates! A collaboration between Antonio Rodrigues, Jessica Barker and me... I'm especially proud we pulled this together despite the fact that due to Covid we've never all 3 been in the same room! https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/full/10.1098/rstb.2022.0074

Why the long face, Camponotus mirabilis?

(A bamboo specialist ant from Amazonian Peru)

#ants #insects

#intro time. I work in biogeography and bioregionalsation, generally in the Palaeozoic and specifically in the Devonian.

I’ve got the tizzm, as the cool kids say (#autism) and will blunder through conversation. Love #tolkien, #trilobites , and palaeo problems involving #scale .

I currently give free talks to schools about Earth Science and Palaeo and ethics. Drop me a line if you’ve some aspiring Earth Scientists looking for a chat!

I have a spare ticket for tomorrow's (9 Nov) #NBN conference at the #NaturalHistoryMuseum in London. The theme is “Making #data work for #nature”.

The programme looks epic: https://nbn.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Programme-for-web-FINAL-7-Nov-22.pdf

Anyone fancy it? Free to a good home...

Introducing myself to Mastodon! I'm a Professor of behavioural ecology, mostly using #ants as my model system to study collective behaviour and the ecological impacts of social behaviour. I do fieldwork on #woodants in the north of England, and run lab experiments and computer models too, and love collaborating all over the world. Also active in EDI in Higher Education.
