@p0etix ,
Dang! I'm jealous. If you recall its name, let me know. Happy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate).

I'm considering switching my instance too. What's the character limit on @qoto.org? Other options I'm considering may be #PixelFed or #WriteFreely, in case you haven't seen the ongoing discussion with others linked to my original post. I'm new to all of this, so figuring out all the options and how different Fediverse platforms connect with each other is still a bit murky to me. Any hints or advice appreciated.
Glad to hear that fixed things. I use a Mac and iPhone too, but use MetaText app. I haven't used MetaText to upload photos yet, since I prefer Safari browser on desktop as my way of viewing Mastodon. So can't tell you if it's any better than Tootle.
My "similar" problem is when I AirDrop iPhone pics to my Mac. I have to drag them out of the Download folder to Desktop before Lightroom Classic can import them - as HEIC files. Very strange. Oh well.
Cheers and toot on!
Just guessing, but if you have a relatively new iPhone, I believe their default file format for both photos and videos is now HEIC, which may be unrecognized in the Mastodon photo upload interface. Try converting the photo to JPG to see if that works.
Here's how to convert HEIC to JPG using a desktop Mac.

Hope that helps.

Interesting thread. Rather than a direct translation to #japanese is there perhaps a Japanese phrase from #Zen Buddhism, Japanese haiku, or maybe even kintsugi cracked pottery that conveys a similar meaning? I'm thinking about the acceptance of imperfection; or the Buddhist concept of detachment since all things are impermanent.
I've been following Kanho Yakushiji, the Zen Buddhist monk who sings, and remembered his video.

Great article by @clive on crucial differences between Mastodon and Twitter:

Not sure, but I'm guessing from the icon to the left of your pic's Public, that you replied from one of the mobile apps. And based on my experience on 2 different iOS apps, each has different ways of calling and displaying things.
The World icon where "unlisted" is a choice, is visible on a toot composing interface via a web browser.
One of the challenges - each interface is slightly different.
The world icon is available in Metatext app.
Does this mean that people replying to the #thread should also click on the world icon to unlist their reply?
Or does doing so defeat the purpose of others seeing a reply that might have an important point? - I think I'm answering my own question here. It's up to the replier to decide if they want their post seen on the Federated, Local, Home timelines.
