I went to the No Kings event in Monroe, Washington, USA today. The event was planned for the street corner on the main drag (not so likely in Monroe, but you know what I mean) where political sign-waving is normally done.
I don't know that I've ever seen something this big there. It stretched for one block on the southern side of the road and four blocks on the northern side. And that's just Monroe.
Public reaction was at least 80% positive. The remaining 20% included four middle fingers that I saw (two men, two women); a guy holding his red MAGA hat out of his car window (at which point my White Dudes for Harris hat came in handy); and two black-smoke diesel pickups, which organizers reported to the police.
Guidance for the event suggested leaving one's smartphone at home, and the other cameras I have would have been cumbersome under the circumstances. So I took a Polaroid camera instead. I have tried to frame the pictures so that as few people as possible can be identified in them, which limits my composition somewhat. I've also been a bit casual about shielding between removing the frog tongue and getting the prints into my camera case, and I'm suspending my normal rule about letting the prints finish cooking for 24 hours before I scan them.
All photos taken today (14 June) with a Polaroid I-2 and Paul Giambarba Edition SX-70 film. Faces that seemed identifiable have been blurred in post.
