Fantastic small, independent bookstore in Sultan, WA – Kiss The Sky Books

Well, this was an amazing find. Kiss The Sky Books in Sultan, Washington has it all – great selection of new and used books (organized according to Sparsazian logic, haha), a shelf curated by the owner, a coffee and tea shop, a couch and comfy chairs, tchotchkes, café tables and a local music night. You could disappear into this magic place and lose yourself for a day. I felt like I had walked into another, saner world. Much like walking into City Lights or Shakespeare and Company.

It was great talking to the owner, Jim Tinney for a bit. His first career was as a programmer for a number of companies including AutoDesk. Lisp! Yes, I know what that is. He lived in a number of mostly small rural towns on the Olympic peninsula and northern Washington working remotely before it was popular. He made a life change a few years ago and renovated a classic old building in Sultan and launched the bookstore. There is life after IT!

If you find yourself heading to or from the Cascades on Highway 2 a stop is Sultan is worth it. The bookstore is just a block off the main highway. I came away with a vintage Jack Kerouac (!). Careful of the mirror wall.
