All around computer nerd from Las Vegas.

Longtime game enjoyer. You can often find me playing X4: Foundations, Stellaris, or World of Warcraft Classic

Desktop OS:CachyOS and Hyprland
Mobile OS:GrapheneOS
Browser:Librewolf & Ironfox
@andreasgoebel AUR in Octopi is a toggle. Click the green alien icon and it will switch you from using pacman with the native repositories to using paru and the AUR.
My very simple #cachyos #hyprland setup for #desktopfriday

@kn_fk @boilingsteam I agree and I've felt this way for a while.

I don't want to over attribute but it's definitely consistent with Google's behavior in the last decade that they would use the Blink engine's monopoly to "spaghetti" the web. Pushing web dev in a way that raises the barrier of investment for any upstart competition.

That way they can continue to pay off a foil(Mozilla) and give off the appearance of competition while closing the door on any potential future threats.

@boilingsteam Along the same lines as the AOSP situation, I don't trust Google's stewardship of the Chromium code. So all things Blink are out for me.

While Firefox is certainly become a poor option, I still feel pretty good about its forks. I prefer privacy over performance so Librewolf(as opposed to something like Zen) for desktop and Ironfox on mobile for me.

Praying for an independent project(maybe Ladybird? Servo?) to someday become a viable alternative. Browsers are hard though.

@boilingsteam The incremental movement and gradual Arch takeover in the first few years really emphasizes how bizarre CachyOS's ascension has been in 2025.

@egosoft I don't mind the look. It's not going to win any awards from me but the streamlined profile is practical.

If I don't use them often it's more because I end up fielding a fleet of Behemoths that I stole from the Scale Plate Pact instead.

@boilingsteam You know, that's a good question. I haven't really looked into it.

All I can say with certainty is 2560x1440@60 as that's the highest I've attempted so far.

@boilingsteam Yes, full AVC/HEVC/AV1 hardare endode and decode.

Which I think the newer B-series Battlemage cards lack at the moment because they use the newer and less mature Xe Intel driver. That information might be out of date though so don't quote me on that.

I found a surprisingly good article on the subject that I reference occasionally:

@boilingsteam Almost entirely gaming and video acceleration for game recording.

@boilingsteam Currently using an Arc A750. Actually very satisfied with it for the price I paid($200).

Currently looking to upgrade but the GPU market is so awful that nothing really strikes me as worthwhile. The Arc B580 looks fine but it's also not that much of an upgrade over what I have already so it doesn't feel like it'd be worth it even at its current price($250).
