I am hopelessly verbose at times, so I'm going to just post a link to my #CachyOS #linux story instead of trying to replicate it here. While writing it, I resurfaced a lot of memories of the journey. Good ones and humbling ones.

Greetings from Las Vegas

Hello there! I’ve been using CachyOS since July 4th, 2024 and figured after a lengthy settling in process that it was finally time to announce my more or less insignificant arrival. My landing at CachyOS was precipitated by a six month stay with Linux Mint, which I later found out is quite common. Mint was able to successfully pull me away from the abomination that is Windows and I will be forever thankful for that, but it quickly became apparent that something was just wrong. So I had some more time this week and gave #hyprland on #cachyos another go.

I'm still adjusting to it and there are *so* many things that still need fiddling with in order to make myself at home, but the important part is that I can actually do normal computing things with minimal fuss now. Sticking around and simply using it will teach me a lot and I'll be able to really see whether I can run this as a daily driver for the long term.

Given what I've learned so far, the gears are turning on how to improve the experience for myself.

The potential is obviously there I just need to see if I can configure it in a way that agrees with my rigid mindset of what a desktop experience should be.

Sometimes something as simple as my cat loafing on my desk will force me down one avenue or the other and it'd be nice to have the ability to switch between the two as needed without an enormous downgrade in efficiency.

My initial foray into Hyprland had me strike a harder wall than I was expecting.

The configuration is simple enough so that wasn't an issue. It was more like the way you're expected to operate the desktop was wholly different than the way I've done it for decades now. I'm fine with the keyboard being the primary navigator but don't like that the mouse feels completely crippled as an input device.

Really looking forward to the next install iso from CachyOS. Been daily driving it for over a year now and figure it's finally time to completely mess up a good thing by experimenting with different desktop environments/compositors. #cachyos #linux #foss
