Ok, anyone want to tell me a bit more about #instances - I ended up in the main one when I joined a few years ago, is it better to pick a smaller one? Is it easy to ‘move’ from one to another? Would you do it sooner or later? Right now I’m just trying to recreate the good things (inc goofy randomness) of the birdsite…

I'm a professor of sociolinguistics at Cardiff University and I work mainly on accents and dialects of English through a variationist perspective.
My main project (yay research funding) right now is looking at three communities in South East Wales to find out more about the dialects used there.
I was born in the US but grew up in French-speaking Switzerland (+ 2 years in Italy) and have lived in the UK for nearly 20 years.

Apparently my child gained extra energy when the clocks went forward! It’s going to be along day 🤣
