From 1 July 2026, I’ll be using EU alternatives to WhatsApp, Instagram, Slack and the like. Specifically, I’ll either use open-source alternatives or support EU companies. Slack will be replaced by Element, and WhatsApp by SKRED. Let’s see how well it goes. Have any of you already had experience with making the switch, and if so, what was it like?

Does silo knowledge in a software development team make sense or not?

My opinion is that it can be "efficient" in the short term, but is doomed to failure in the long term. The management overlooks (perhaps deliberately) real factors such as the loss of an employee, which means that the project schedule will fail very quickly.

All developers say every time that they are fully behind the SOLID principles, but if you take a look at their codebase, all you see is an inheritance hell and classes that break the SRP. 🥶 But SOLID is not new, yet you see these kinds of builds all the time, especially in PHP. #PHP #Developer
