I am mostly done these teeny #OctopusBag earrings. I’m going to edge them using a blanket stitch with embroidery thread. But what colour? Red? Suggestions appreciated. #MetisBeadwork #beadwork
THE YORK FACTORY EXPRESS:
This blogpost tells the stories of the portages and other landmarks above Swampy Lake, on the upper Hayes River, as described by an Englishman, [Sir] John Franklin, as he came up the River in September 1819.
The HBC men never wrote about or described their portages or landmarks because they were so familiar, so it delights me to find descriptions left behind by Englishmen who followed the HBC trails.

I made #AltonBrown’s #eggnog recipe for the first time. It called for an ungodly number of eggs and obscene amount of cream so I cautiously made a half recipe (only 6 egg yolks…). Reader, that was a mistake. I should have made a full—nay, double—recipe. You’ve been warned.

NB: I am the only eggnog drinker in the house.

Aged Eggnog Recipe | Classic Eggnog Recipe | Alton Brown

A winter holiday classic eggnog recipe, Alton Brown's aged eggnog blends rum, bourbon, and cognac with dairy and nutmeg for a complex Christmas cocktail.

Heading home from Old Faithful this afternoon we encountered a group of bison braving the 150F water while crossing the runoff of Excelsior Geyser. The cold air causes heavy steam to rise and surround the bison.
Feel like we should do one of those awful "clap for the carers" things again except make it abundantly, explicitly clear that we're all out on our doorsteps applauding the strikers (who are, of course, the exact same groups of workers who got the applause back in 2020)
Yesterday was my last day of teaching before a hard earned semester of #researchleave. Like most people working in #HEUK I am #BURNTOUT. So one of my research #goals for the next few months is to rest. I have a few things I need to do but my brain needs a break. #AcademicBurnout #rest
Did these during meetings over the last couple of days. Reflecting on the HBC blanket and what that iconography means to me and to others. #MetisBeading #Beadwork https://canadianart.ca/features/blanket-statement-chelsea-vowel/
Blanket Statement

The Hudson’s Bay Company blanket is a symbol of colonial Canada, but for Métis people in the Prairies, it also stands for community, ceremony and survival.
