@TindrasGrove @jerry Ah, neat. My mom makes rugs using strips of old t-shirts. Is there a maximum thickness on this? Could you cut t-shirts or other old cloth small enough and knot end-to-end to make recycled tubes?
@jerry Absolutely mesmerizing. But...why do you need continuous yarn tubes?

@wdormann Between this and them accidentally tagging legitimate emails as spam there for a bit, you'd almost think they were bought out by a spam/phishing company. 🀣

I heard there might be a batch of Mastodon newcomers this week. So first of all:

The Mastodon’s Guide to the Fediverse (starting with Mastodon step-by-step!)

A simple blog about privacy, security, open source, software engineering, and tech in general.

#nextdoor is a cancer.

I refuse to use Facebook, so I'm locked out of FB marketplace. That really leaves eBay, Craigslist, and Nextdoor.

I installed Nextdoor, and was immediately BARRAGED by emails and notifications. Every time I would get an email, I would hit "Unsubscribe", log in, and be told I unsubscribed. Then, I would get another email, hit "Unsubscribe" and move on.

After the fifth day of this, I finally went to investigate. Not only is there no global "Unsubscribe" email button that I can find, but there are 52 (!) different email toggles you have to check to never receive an email from this app.

Fifty. Two.

They are desperate to keep you on the app, and it shows.

Imagine in 20 years having to explain we used to have chocolate and coffee but we let a couple of guys destroy the earth so they could have all the money.

Future generations will think we're insane. We look back at cave people and think 'yeah nice finger paintings and bone tools you absolute idiots - we did planes and twitter'.

We are the cave people now. We are the idiots.

@SecurityWriter it was either this or sleep.
If you tell your friends about Mastodon, you’re technically an ambassador of the federation.
@catsalad Huh. I normally have a strong adverse reaction to stuff like this, but this time, nothing. I wonder if it's because of the animated feel?
@nazokiyoubinbou @ai6yr I second the fan cleaning. If you want a second drive, and you don't care about the case, you can do what I did: Drill a hole for the hard drive cable in the side, then drill some screws through the inside to mount the hard drive. It required some careful measuring but it worked and only required two screws. No overheating issues, relatively stable.
